Canadian Study Permit – SDS Program, Cost of Education, and More

Why Study in Canada?

Studying in Canada can be the best decision of your life. The country has come a long way from being overlooked to today becoming an increasingly popular option for international students from India, the US, the UK, and many other countries.

Home to cultural diversity and globally-recognized universities and colleges, Canada is considered among the top safe and stable countries for international students. Its unparalleled education system offers international students an opportunity to expand their network and gain global exposure.

Here are some other advantages of studying in Canada:

  • Canada is less expensive as its inflation rate is very low in comparison to industrial countries.
  • Warm and welcoming environment with cultural diversity.
  • Students can obtain a post-graduate work permit and may be eligible for Canadian Permanent Residency.
  • Seeing the current scenario, many Canadian colleges and universities are offering online programs and certification courses for the 2020-21 academic year, making it more affordable for you.
  • You can work part-time if you are like most study permit holders.
  • There are Canadian Scholarship programs you can apply for to help you financially.

Student Direct Stream Program

Introduced in June 2018 by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Student Direct Stream (SDS) is a fast-track visa process enabling students from specific countries to apply and process visas within 20 days. SDS is a consolidated and streamlined program that combines the existing study permit applications from the below-listed countries.

Who can apply under the SDS Program?

With the benefits like reduced documentation and simplified process, many would want to apply under SDS. But you are eligible to apply under this stream only if you are a legal resident of:

  • China
  • India
  • Philippines
  • Vietnam
  • Morocco
  • Senegal
  • Pakistan

Note – The students who possess citizenship of the above countries but living in another country are not eligible for SDS. They need to apply under the standard study permit process.
